We are excited to be gearing up for 2012's soccer marathon on Saturday, March 24th. With this being our 4th year, we are hoping to make and even surpass our goal of $12 000! To do this we need to really focus on filling up the field and raising as many pledges as possible! Check out the rest of the website for information on playing, sponsoring or volunteering.
2011's marathon raised $10 000 that was all donated to the Central Alberta Cancer Centre here in Red Deer. They were very grateful for it. Such success wouldn't be possible without everyone's help, involvement and contributions! volunteer today!
2010 raised $10 172 that was donated to the Alberta Cancer Foundation in Dierk’s name. This event could not have been so successful without everyone who got involved.
2009 was the first such event for our committee. With the help of our sponsors, participants and volunteers, $8000 was raised and donated to the Alberta Cancer Foundation in Dierk’s name.
Taken away from his family and friends at 41. My co-hort in soccer, my coach and my friend. I remember him most for his infectious smile. His charismatic nature made him new friends wherever he went. His passion in life was soccer. Playing it most of his life. Coaching came naturally, as he knew the game inside and out. He knew exactly how the game could and should be played. And broke it down into the simplest steps. I think I will always hear him, in my head while I play. "just jockey, easy passes, shield the ball, control it, look up, pass to feet". I hope he will always stay there. Continuing to coach me although he is not here. Dierk made a difference in my life. I will always be grateful for that. And he will always remain in a place in my heart.
Dr. Seuss said it well, "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."
I miss that smile.
